Chilliwack grew by about 11% between the 2016 and 2021 censuses, from 83,788 to 93,203 people, and child care spent years behind that curve: the City’s 2019 Child Care Needs Assessment counted fewer than 18 licensed spaces for every 100 children aged 0 to 12. Supply has since caught up considerably. A City staff report in February 2026 put the rate at 25 spaces per 100 children, with 1,891 new spaces added since 2019. That is still one licensed space for every four children, and the number says nothing about what each space is like. Gentle Giants is deliberately small: a group of up to sixteen children in total, the same familiar educators every day, and a calm, thoughtfully prepared room in Greendale. For a lot of Chilliwack families, that small scale is exactly what they couldn’t find closer to the city centre.

Why Chilliwack families choose us
Our location on Sumas Prairie Rd in Greendale, on the west side of the city, is what makes us realistic for families across Chilliwack rather than only our own corner of it. From Sardis, Vedder Crossing and Promontory in the south it’s an 8-to-12-minute run west along South Sumas Rd or Keith Wilson Rd; from downtown it’s about 12 minutes on Yale Rd West; from Fairfield Island, Little Mountain and Rosedale it’s 16 to 17 minutes, mostly on Highway 1. Many families tell us the daily drive turned out to be the easy part.
What they come for is the programme. Full-day care for ages 3–5 runs 7:30 to 5:30, with the morning preschool block built right into the day rather than sold as a separate add-on. Children get genuine early education, literacy, early math, fine motor skills, school readiness, inside dependable full-day care, all in one place and with one set of adults. Add twice-daily outdoor play, a real rest period, and the afternoon music-and-movement circle, and you have a full, balanced day rather than simply supervised hours.
